Ambrasian Reformation

The Ambrasian Reformation transpired in the first half of the twelfth century (ca 1110 AI to 1140 AI) in Amyrn and the surrounding Durrhaunve. The chief proponent, Emsiadheal dhailg Dealdha Struiagha (born 1087, died 1146) brought together several students of ancient sun worship in the Durrhaunve who were effectively the last of the Pre-Reformation Heliolatrous School of Amyrn. With the aid of the local princes, the reformers escape the worst of the possible persecution of the Arathracian Church and avoided defeat at the hands of the Deavingeal Dynasty. The local nobility largely favored the reformation and its promised independence from Asbardy and Erechóreb. Emsiadheal dhailg Dealdha Struiagha was highly regarded as honorable and well-educated. In 1109, the Declaration of the Heliolatrous Scholars of Amyrn denounced certain teachings of the Arathracian Church. The Ambrasian Reformation was possible due to the declining power of the Deavingeal Dynasty and is thought to have been a major force for its final collapse. Additionally, in the 11th century, the Holy See of Trevirs had separated from the Arathracian Erechórebese Church. This schism weakened the overall power of the Arathracian Church and the Ambrasianists exploited this weakness. During the eleventh century, Bambdringot the Pure increased the power of the Arathracian Pytharnian Church, becoming the sunfather of all Pytharnia.

• 1113, Battle of Dragondraught Bridge on the Rhaunve River ends in stalemate and opens the War of the Ambrasian Reformation; Dragon Knights of Amyrn and Bryndyd fight each other.
• 1122 to 1123, Siege of Amyrn (1122)
• 1123, Battle of Blamffa (1123). Ithradite relief army turns tide of battle against Arathracian forces, ending the siege of Amyrn.
• 1137, Consecration of Taoilanth dhailg Leiochio (lived 1096 to 1158), High Priest of Amyrn as Archpatriarch of Amyrn,
• 1137 Expulsion of Arathracian Archpatriarch of Amyrn

• 1140, Conversion of Tehaspir dhailg Arriuidh, last heir of Deavingeal Dynasty, to Ambrasianism
• 1140 to 1149: Tehasprine Campaign. Tehaspir and other Ambrasian Military leaders make an offensive march with Ithradite allies from Amyrn through Durrhaunve to Bryndyd. They use a combination of infantry (Ithradic) and cavalry tactics to smash the Arathracian forces. Amyrnite Dragon Knights defend dwarven bombards which smash the Bryndydite Dragon Knights.
• 1145 Battle of Gamgirion (1145), Ithradic forces repel Arathracian levees from Magdala, attempting to take advantage of the fact that most of the Ambrasian forces are on campaign in Durrhaunve.
• 1149, Battle of Fiobaire (1149), ends in defeat for the Arathracian forces. Ithradic Dwarven allies fight with Ambrasians against Arathracian levees of Bryndyd. Arathracians sue for peace to avoid a siege of Bryndyd.
• 1150 to 1153, Siege of Bryndyd (1150). The Ambrasian forces press their advantage and force Arathracian forces to sue for peace.
• 1153, High Truce of Bryndyd (1153), Arathracians continue to sue for peace. Treaty between Pytharnian Sunfather and Taoilanth dhailg Leiochio ends the War of the Ambrasian Reformation. Ambrasian forces call off siege and return to Ambrasia and the Ithrads.

Ambrasianism

The rise of Ambrasianism began with the Ambrasian Reformation in the twelfth century. Conservatives and liberals in the Arathracian clergy of Ambrasia adopted major doctrinal reforms which resulted effectively in a new religion. Emsiadheal dhailg Dealdha Struiagha, 1087 to 1146, was chiefest among the reformers and authored several important documents critical to Ambrasianism. Ambrasianism focuses on the cult and worship of the sun-god Amrulon and places few important roles on his first-born, Arathrax. Additionally, the last scion of the Deavingeal Dynasty, Tehaspir dhailg Arriuidh, renounced his claim to the crown and converted to Ambrasianism. In some ways, Ambrasianism is a reversion to the traditional cult of pre-Yophenthean Amyrn.

Languages of Ambrasianism

The liturgy of the Ambrasian Religion was formerly conducted in the now extinct Ambrasian Language, a daughter language of Classical Yophenthean. Many Ambrasian religious terms survive today in the Gonfalese Language.

In Ambrasianism, the purpose of ceremonial worship is very important and the use of traditional sites for solar observances.
