The land of Xsys encompasses the western end of Nymentho, spreading from its core in the northeast and into the Grand Amrul Mountains. The nation of Xsys is called the Commonwealth of Xsys. In practice, it is a timocracy. The corpora mercia of Xsys continue Xsys's tradition of skybarge transportation in the modern age, a tradition practiced since ancient times. Xsys was settled by tribes related to the modern Tuadbe of Pytharnia who fled the rule of the Neptultchi King in legendary times. The Onax River is the greatest river in Xsys.
Cities
There are numerous towns and small cities in Xsys. The coastal capital is Selexis. The greatest inland city is Tzuhonshi'a that lies on the east bank of the Onax River.
History
The Xsyte peoples are directly descended from Neptultchi commoners. Xsyte legends recount that rebellious aristocrats (priests), led many groups of serfs from the area of ancient Bryndyd out of Pytharnia. They voyaged by rafts pulled by dragon knights to northeastern Nymentho. Historians date this migration to about 1760 AS, based upon cultural references and archeological sites in the coast of Xsys. An older tradition maintains that Neptultchi migrated to Xsys as early as 2500 AS, but this is suspected by many scholars. Xsys was ruled by Yophentheans until the Third Sack of Yophénthë and the Xsys tribes renounced the rule of the Yophenthean Empire soon thereafter. In the late first millennium after Salmakhamer, Xsytes adopted skybarges that could not attain great elevation or speed, but could bear relatively higher cargos. In early modern times, Xsytes were pioneers of the use of Aeolian Vapor vessels outside of the Jaggudorns. Xsyte history recounts that a tribe of elves called the Sfanassi were found in the forests at the time of their arrival but departed sometime thereafter mysteriously. The ancient capital of the Xsytes was Kasarihax, the site of their national temple and priesthood.
The ancient Xsytes made use of Skycraft technology in the first century after Salmakhamer. Several traditions, both in Xsys and abroad, recount that the Xsytes invented and developed the very first skybarges in the late twelfth century.
Ethnic Origin
The Xsyte people are descendants of the ancient Neptultchi, thus a cousin race to the Tuadbe of Pytharnia. Each Xsyte family is traditionally associated with one of six ancient tribes of the Xsyte people. Xsytes have had a strong tradition of merchants since the fall of the Yophenthean Empire.
Language
The Xsyte Language is related to that of the Tuadbe and originates from western dialect of Neptultchi. The Xsytes language was a great boon to scholars attempting to decipher Neptultchi glyphs. While Xsyte is little spoken outside of Xsys, the Xsyte people are bilingual and often trilingual. Most Xsytes can speak either Medibgóëse or Erechórebese, in addition to their native tongue. There is limited intelligibility between Xsyte and Tuadbe.
Forest of Alithrinx
Most of Xsys is wooded and the Xsytes are diligent conservators of their forested lands. Xsytes produce most structures from stone or imported timber. Only the very best wood is used for making skybarges.
Religion
Xsytes are very scrupulous with regard to their local divinities and hold the Forest of Alithrinx to be sacred. They do not share a tradition of worshiping the Isxinthion Gods with other nations. Very few Xsystes are Arathracian, but they are happy to give a nod to the Incarnandist religion.
Economy
Xsys has a strong merchant tradition and many Xsytes are engaged in the transportation or sale of goods through the Pallathantic Region. Xsys is historically famous for its skybarges tugging wares across the world. Today, Xsyte merchant use the aerobarge, the modern version of the skybarge to transport goods from Sungo to the Ojo Empire to Barathorn and nearly everywhere in between.
Government
The government of Xsys has been a commonwealth for about four centuries since the Middle Ages of Chaos. The assembly of deputies consists of representatives from the over two hundred cantons. The council of merchants is made up of the wealthiest merchants who deliberate on foreign policy and appealed legal cases and they can refer legislation to the assembly of deputies for confirmation. Xsys traditionally has no executive, but relies on generals appointed by the council of merchants. The capital of Xsys is Selexis.
Flag
The flag bears a personified crescent moon that represents starmoon on the night under which the Xsyte people migration to Nymentho. The six stars represent the six tribes.
