The philosophy that the cosmos is comprised of a multitude, perhaps an infinitude, of realms is polycosmism. It is an essential component of polycosmology or the study of various realms. The belief in polycosmism, a universe with many and differing realms (compare planes or dimensions) of existence is not uniform among academics and wizards. Some assert that only lateral realms, such as the Astral Realm and the Ethereal Realm exist while others posit an array of realms beyond our physical existence.
