A titan-arm is titancraft device that beams an energetic projectile and is typically based upon a larger titancraft artillery weapon. A titan-armis considered distinct from a traditional bladed or tipped weapon that uses magic merely to enhance its otherwise conventional effect. Titan-arms are occasionally called titanarms. Titan-arms draw ambient magical energy for relatively simple combat effect much like a projectile weapon or dwarvenfire and in this regard differ from traditional magical weapons from a wizard's repertoire. Additionally, titan-arms in the past hundred years have become cheaper and easier to construct and can be employed by troops in war, usually elite troops with special training. Titan-arms are much cheaper than exotic magical devices that typically require skilled attunement, but significantly costlier than dwarvenfire weapons and traditional weapons.

In this regard, they usually employ a design characteristic of titancraft. Titan-arms and related weapons have been in use for centuries, but were particularly developed after the Isbajutha, until they came to play a critical role in the 2600's in the Sewdhaine War.

Titan-arms derived from titancraft have been slow in development due to the challenges of subtitanization of the technology. They are cumbersome to wield. They also require panox due to their relatively small size compared to standard titancraft artillery, making their use and maintenance costly and not feasible for the armament of military units en masse. They were employed in some numbers during the Sewdhaine War alongside dwarvenfire and conventional weapons, especially for high-ranking officers and elite troops. Titan-arms also played a minor role alongside titancraft artillery during the Expansion of Inland Aurician Empire in Late 2600's.

Titan-arms are less effective against most magical beasts and magically enhanced humanlikes.

Chronology of Titan-arms

  • Bogashtra, aka 'titanstaff' ca 2470s; Geddamin-developed, Pole-arm weapon; magical energy point can wound or kill, sometimes causing lasting paralysis; effect can pass unhindered through most substances, including metallic armor, on contact; ineffective against magical entities, pole-arm is also fitted with a bayonet or a bladed weapon conventional to a pole-arm. The titancraft blade that discharged the magical energy could be shaped like the blade of a Lochaber Axe. aka, titanstaff, titanaxe, cf. titanstaver, titanaxeman; created by the Geddamin and adapted by humans in 26th century.
  • Ijamu ca. early 2505s, fixed cannon, Geddamin-developed
  • Pazhunzar, "Panflow Cannon," ca 2530 to 2570, Geddamin-designed mobile cannon, operable by one or two Geddamin

All modern titan-arms have been subtitanized for human use, but are still somewhat bulky, except for the sh'rida. They draw power from ambient magical energy and thus always have power, unless the ambient magical field is reduced and not yet replenished.

  • Dragonclaw, ca 2610s, developed from the titan staff for human use, the Dragonclaw combines a pole-arm with a deadly magical tip. It is an electrical contact weapon the magic of which ignores metallic armor.
  • Thunderjack ca 2640 to 2680, heavy personal weapon, as adapted by humans, must be held against shoulder or on mount, fires magical energy beam; cumbersome and very loud; originally developed in Asbardy.
  • Demonio Barrel, ca 2710 to 2720, fires energy beam. Not as powerful as other weapons, but lighter and more rapid fire
  • Sh'rida, ca 2690 to 2710, small, derringer-like pistol that emits an energy beam that is capable of killing or damaging the nervous system of the victim.
