Ruby Gates is an independent city-state in northwestern Barathorn, founded by a colony of Ithradic Dwarves and prospered by an ongoing trade in rubies which are mined in the nearby mountains. The city rests on the northwestern shore of the inland body of water, the Dragon Sea. The city is called 'Ruby Gates' after a legend that said that rubies were imbedded into the gates of the city. Ruby Gates is the principal destination of the so-called Ruby Highway. Ruby Gates straddles the isthmus dividing the Dragon Sea and the Skrandley Sea.
As Ruby Gates is in northern Barathorn, the climate is cold with heavy snowfalls in the winter due to 'lake effect' snow.
Inhabitants of Ruby Gates are a mixture of Ithradic Dwarves, Bukalaän Dwarves, Barathornish Humans, Selymbrian Elves, Halflings, and other humans.
