Balimarutha is a legendary, antediluvian city thought to lay west of Thorto Island, south of the Kumeikenot Channel. Scholars have tentatively parsed the meaning as "Bali's Landing" where 'Bali' is an ancient name in a poorly attested language for the god, Penjahlos (See Lygdamion). The epic poem, the Aturyandakumi, recounts that the cities of Balimarutha and Kathyasundi were at war shortly before the Great Flood. The city Kathyasundi worshiped the Kalaman divinity Atur who was its patron god and the city Balimarutha worshiped the chaos god, Penjahlos. Several myths tell of the destruction of the city.
