Any vessel used to summon the aid or manifestation of a supernatural or divine power, a summoning vessel is more often an artistic exercise beloved of collectors and art historians. In the hands of a skilled practitioner, a summoning vessel may be used to summon information from the gods above, about, or below. The vessel must usually be filled with water, wine, or blood as a symbolic offering and the petitioner must then utter a prayer or incantation until satisfied that utterance has had or shall have efficacy.
