The wyvern is a cunning, winged reptilian. The wyvern has standard morphology with two, large, bat-like wings for forelimbs and legs for hindlimbs. It does not have the unusual sextupedal morphology of the dragon or the centaur. Wyverns can live in many places, but they prefer high mountains where they can lair in caves above valleys or plateaus. They build their weirs in the mountains to keep their eggs and young and swoop down upon prey and sometimes the cattle of humans to feed themselves and their small families. In addition to mountains, wyverns do not like living in cold climates as it tends to make them sluggish. For this reason, they inhabit the southern Jaggudorns, but not much further north. Travelers will often pay mountain guides to hike to the outskirts of the mountain lairs of wyverns to see these majestic creatures hunt just after dawn or just before nightfall. The habitat of the wyvern has shrunk in the past two hundred years due to the use of dwarvenfire and titancraft arms to slay these beasts who threaten the livestock of farmers and herders in the high valleys of the Jaggudorns.
