Great Fire of Trevirs
2603 Addanmoon 17 Devastating about a third of the sprawling core territory of Trevirs, the Great Fire of Trevirs (2603 AI) reputedly began from an alchemist's experiment gone horribly wrong. About one third of the walled city was razed to the ground.
Trevirs lies on the tops of the hilly country of High Pytharnia and is prone to swift winds during the spring and autumn months. Most of the city's constructions are made of timber which is plentifully and cheaply supplied from the great forests of central and northern Pytharnia. The fire began in the central portion of the city and spread under unseasonable north winds of late spring down to the lower, southern city. Wood houses and shops were burned to the ground and the wooden rooftops of masonry constructions collapsed from fire-damage, leaving a brick or stone structure charred with flames. Thousands died and even thousands more were left homeless, many of whom sought refuge out of the city in neighboring towns and countries.
Some structures were preserved. The Palace of the Imperial Diet of Magdala was miraculously preserved and many believe magic was responsible.
Skycraft bearing rainwater to douse the flames were summoned by the emperor, but these were insufficient and many of these skycraft succumbed to the flames and smoke.
After the fire subsided several days later, citizens heard rumor that an alchemist's experiment had caused the fire and began rioting and destroying the surviving buildings thought to belong to wizards and alchemists of any sort.
Fortunately, many refugees found themselves in the relatively mild summer of the High Pytharnia. Tent cities sprung up outside of the walls. Many survivors emigrated as far away as Merethaia and New Pytharnia.
