Wizard's diptych
A wizard's diptych is a magical device created by a magic-practitioner used for communication. A single wizard's diptych appears like a tablet with a wax or wax-like surface. The device is created as a pair, rarely three or more. Using a stylus, one writes a message or illustration on the wax surface of one of the wizard's diptychs and the same inscription appears instantly or nearly instantly on the surface of the other wizard's diptych. The distance between two the wizard's diptychs is unimportant and some wizard's diptychs are purported to operate not only from different sides of the globe but also between two different realms.
As a magical instrumentt, a wizard's diptych is a rare device and of great value. During the twenty seventh and early twenty eighth centuries, titancraft engineers endeavored without success to create a similarly functioning technology for communicating over long distances instantaneously.
Several gruntish theories exist to explain how a pair of wizard's diptych operates. One theory states that the wizard's diptych transmits energy through the plenum of space, another that it transmits through another realm, and yet another that it is a non-local phenomenon based upon universal resonance.
