Dragurtha Island is a rocky, nearly treeless island in the northwest ocean.

Dragurtha Island is a lone moderately sized island in the northwest ocean of the old world. It rests on the western edge of the Bardost Sea and the northern edge of the Sea of Parkyos. It was created by vulcanism, the chiefest volcano being Mount Saudonis. The island was discovered by oar-driven ships that set forth from western Barathorn, probably in the early Medieval period and was used as a way point for voyagers from Barathorn and northern Orrhymby to the Dragon Reaches of the New World. It is known as the abode of a great dragon whose whereabouts and dealings are kept in the memory of the local inhabitants. The largest settlement is Dragon Port, an autonomous entity operated by the local families. Most of the inhabitants are of Barathornish human stock with sizeable dwarven and halfling populations. The total size of the population in the late 2600's was estimated at just under 3,000 persons. Dragon Port's economy is based upon fishing, prospecting, and hosting voyagers. There are no local dragonriders, but occasional transoceanic dragonriders who may offer protection to the settlement for the time of their sojourn. These dragonriders are skilled in the dangerous practice of long-range gliding. However, some arrive by seabarge or skybarge where they rest and den their beasts.

The climate of the island is very cold and wet with mild summers. There are few trees on the island and most dwellings are made from stone or mud brick with thatched rooftops. The name of the island is derived from the Gwenyan word, 'thragon' which means 'north.'
