Gonfalese Sound
The Gonfalese Sound is a long, narrow channel that separates Esphagonia from Gonfaloy. It enables access for Rhiamnus to the Pallathantic Sea. The Gonfalese Sound should not be confused with the Gonfalese Sea which rests at its southern mouth and is part of the greater Pallathantic Sea. Like the rest of the Pallathantic Sea, the Gonfalese Sound has a wet, temperate climate. Its relative shallowness and its narrow form ensure that its waters remain free from the fiercest storms. The Gonfalese is prone to long rain storms in the winter. Gohyth Island is the second largest island in the sound.
The Gonfalese Sound is nearly as important for seaborne trade for Asbardy, Medibgóëse Gonfaloy, and the Principality of Gonfaloy as the Sea of Asbardy is for Asbardy and Bryndyd. Rhiamnus is the most frequent destination for seaships entering the Gonfalese Sound. Important sea ports of the sound include Rhiamnus, Tanthgefri, Airefithuny, and Gandrey.
