The Ithatian philosopher Aelox Arathracianus believed that all creatures whether humanlike or beast succumb perpetually to the sleep of creation. When a gib-master exercises his peculiar dominion over gibgibsew he does not best the creature but rather entices it to see his control as the natural seduction of sleep. By so doing, the brute superiority of the beast is made nothing. Humanlikes differ from beasts in that they rise from time to time from this cosmic slumber, said Aelox Arathracanius, and can see patterns and meanings outside the bounds of their physical wants.
