The development and expansion of above-ground Dragonrail routes began in earnest in Pytharnia in the twenty seventh century and has continued into this one. Dwarves of the Jaggudorns are responsible for the initial expansion and corpora mercia of Aurice have invested great sums of wealth into the development of dragonrail routes in Agogia, Lucacia, Corundy, and the inland empire of Aurice. The Geddamin Giants have expressly refrained from developing dragonrail in Ambrinqua.
The history of dragonrail development on Asdar in the twenty seventh and now the twenty eighth centuries differs in some regards from the development and expansion of rail service on Earth. On Asdar, dragonrail arose like much of titancraft where nation states had fewer political freedoms, smaller human populations in the cities, and a world of humanlikes sharing the same planet. Skycraft, including Xsyte aerobarges and early titancraft vessels competed with dragonrail, offering swift and direct transportation between sites. Skycraft was already well over two thousand years old and a very known quantity. Skycraft lines did not need to secure land for the costly construction of rails for fixed routes. However dragonrail could deliver terrestrial certainty free from the worst fancies of weather and the ability to move large, heavy tonnages which skycraft even today still fall short of. Additionally, dragonrail transportation of human passengers in populous southern Pytharnia offers competitive pricing and reliable winter service versus skycraft. In this regard, dragonrail competed more with seaborne barges and had to deliver cargo routes that could penetrate the interior of the landmasses, offering freight routes that could reliably bypass the sea-lanes. All three modes, sea, sky, and dragonrail are assured an future as the Pallathantic Region and the greater world continue their ongoing industrialization.
