The Empire of Medibgö is the government that rules the Skynesses of Medibgö and associated dependencies, including the Governorship of Kasthavia and the Governorship of Gonfaloy. The Empire of Medibgö is a member of the Union of Pytharnia.

History of the Empire of Medibgö

Medibgö was ruled by the sorcerer-kings until the Middle Ages, when the ongoing threat of internecine strife, chaos sorcerers, the dissolution of central authority in High Pytharnia and elsewhere, and humanlike assaults were met with a strong central government in the form of an emperor.

Emperor of Medibgö

The Emperor (Gebal in Medibgóëse Language) is the hereditary monarch who represents the supreme executive power of the realm. The rank and office of Emperor is currently held by Talban IV of House Asgabin Tutha. He is the head of state of the empire and the Medibgóëse People and the joint head of state of the Union of Pytharnia. By treaty since the Sewdhaine War, the rank of the emperor is held equal in eminence with the Emperor of Magdala and the King of Thrain. The emperor is highest ranking constitutional office of the empire, the fount of honors in all Medibgö, and regarded as the higest representative between the people of Medibgö and the ancestral gods, especially Rhewlla, more widely known as Rhio. He is also the president of the Thörewgas, the Medibgóëse assembly of Peers. The Emperor appoints the Tüdd of the great skyness of Mämnir since the twenty fourth century. The power and prestige of the office and rank of the emperor is often called by metonymy the Ffarfadagh Throne, so named for the throne upon which the emperors have sat for many centuries.

The imperial palace of Medibgö rests on the skyness of Mäddglows.

Prince of Medibgö

The Prince of Medibgö also known as the Prince of Mäddglows is the imperial heir. He is the highest priest of the cult of the ancestral divinity, Meidb. His traditional title in Medibgö is gebalddorn kähaa which means 'rightful imperial heir.'

Thörewgas

The Thörewgas is the assembly of peers of Medibgö. It is considered the upper house of the Union of Pytharnia. The peers of Medibgö include land-owners and landless peers, and certain hereditary priestly offices who engage in state cults and receive support from the imperial government. The Thörewgas meets in the Kawffgarcha Palace in Mäddglows.

Aristocratic Ranks

Medibgö is unusual not only for its skynesses but for its population which is nearly half aristocratic. The remaining largish half consists of gentlemen, commoners, and some dragonmount warriors whose principle functions are household and imperial support for the nobles. In a former time, the titled wizards and high-born sorcerers of Medibgö relied upon land holdings on the surface of Pytharnia, especially in High Pytharnia. With the passage of centuries, these landholdings have been greatly reduced. Despite the drop in riches, the aristocrats of Medibgö remain the heirs of immense sorcerous and arcane power and possess great wealth and prestige. The ranks of Medibgö in order with their relevant heir name and English translation are given in the table below.
