A fish of the mountain streams of the eastern Jaggudorns, perhaps distantly related to salmon. The havrut has ‘wings’ somewhat like a catfish. During the winter, the havrut is found in lower-lying mountain streams and lakes. According to legend, it enters subterranean caverns via these waterways and migrates upwards within the mountains. In the spring, when the snows melt, the havrut emerge in high mountain streams and migrate upwards, leaping from stream to stream if necessary till they arrive in low-lying mountain and valley lakes and streams. It is thought that they spawn in subterranean pools deep within the mountain. They are a favorite food of thraughbears and gakhyami.
