Maturn is a large island in the Pallathantic Sea and one of the largest of the Ithatian Islands.

Maturn is the fifth largest island in the Pallathantic Sea and one of the Ithatian Islands with a mediterranean climate. The island is mountainous and the highest peak, Mount Skemechoio, is an active volcano. Like other islands in the Pallathantic Sea, the island is prone to earthquakes. Small bosques of bimbhari and jahshput trees dot the island, with a great woodland in the northern mountains of the island. Maturn is a province in the Republic of Ithatia. The provincial capital of the island and some of the neighboring islands is Gnousikai. Notably, the island of Zamaclë is independent.

Maturn was settled in ancient times by the Thetzisari tribes and then by waves of seafaring tribes from the east, first the Pallathantic Tribes toward the late middle of the third millennium before Salmakhamer, followed by the Kirxiomin of the Ithatian Tribes in the mid second millennium before Salmakhamer. The Kirxiomin tribe of the Ithatians regarded the god Kirxios as their ancestral divinity. Their magical priesthood in time became the basis of the Maturnine school of magic. In the eighth century before Salmakhamer, the island was ruled by the famous king, Taskorrhion.

The city of Gnousikai is the largest on the island. Other important cities include Sephri, Threukmos, Upharios, Priodezza, Belegios, Kornoia, Entega, and Tinanthis. The island has important trade relations with Zamaclë which is dependent upon Maturn for many goods and foodstuffs not produced locally. Maturn is home to several institutions of higher learning, including the Sephrimic Institute of Advanced Alchemy.

Modern Government

Maturn is an eparchy (province) of the Republic of Ithatia. It is governed by a Nesiarch whose residence is in Gnousikai.
