Any vessel used to summon the aid or manifestation of a supernatural or divine power, a summoning vessel is more often an artistic exercise beloved of collectors and art historians. In the hands of a skilled practitioner, a summoning vessel may be used to summon information from the gods above, about, or below. The vessel must usually be filled with water, wine, or blood as a symbolic offering and the petitioner must then utter a prayer or incantation until satisfied that utterance has had or shall have efficacy.

Summoning vessels are sometimes key components of old legends with the gods answering in the surface of the offered fluid, similar to scrying or in some other manner, sometimes as terrifying as conjuring a minion of the god to aid the summoner.

The vessel is thought to empower the fluid to become receptive to the summoner's wishes and thus acts as a channel between the world of mortals and the world of the gods.
