A throe race consists of living creatures who are infused with the power of chaos energy. The members of the race are called 'throes' because they are thought to be in the 'throes' of ecstatic chaos. An individual who becomes subject to chaos energy may also be called a throe, even though his progenitors are conventional. For this reason, throes are called chaos-tainted.
Throes are dependent upon chaos energy and can call draw upon life sustenance and supernatural power through this energy. Numerous throe races have been known through the ages. They are thought to exist in great numbers in the Realm of Chaos.
