An ambiguous term, trollscrift can mean petroglyphs carved into natural stone by trolls or more frequently petroglyphs made by other humanlikes to frighten trolls from the area. Trollscrift consists of symbolic glyphs carved or etched into the natural stone. It is thought that cutting the trollscrift into the stone is most efficacious as trolls are able to sleep inside of stone during the day.

The Shadmaus is well-known for its examples of trollscrift, some dating back at least four thousand years. Trollscrift is sometimes mistaken by laypersons for other petroglyphs dating back towards the time of the Flood of Aturyanda.[1]

Trollscrift is arguably more effective as a deterrent than as a magical force.
