The continent of Antarctica rests at the southern pole. In this map, it is distorted by a Mercator projection.

The term Antarctica is used to refer to both the continent proper and the islands, Jittagogg and Skaligdæ. The continent Antarctica has never been much explored and is thought to be entirely desert, covered with endless snow and ice.
