Elven Languages

Scholars believe that all Elven languages are essentially dialects of a common elven tongue that was once spoken well in deep antiquity, at least 60,000 years ago before the present. There is much or nearly complete intelligibility between these varieties. In the west, Disdrire, Findorian, and Selymbrian Elven dialects are very similar to each other, so they form one group. Sungotinian Elven or Kwam is another main group. New world elves (Jinguese and Lhotan) speak very similar varieties of Elven. In the west, the Elven Language refers to the dialect spoken by the Disdrire, Findorian, and Selymbrian Elves. The elves of the Disdrire Forest call their language Pasaoivi.

Human scholars who study the elves have access to much knowledge about elven languages in their present state, especially the elven languages of the Disdrire and of Sungo, although there are few humans who speak elven in the West. The Elven Language of the Disdrire is known to specialized diplomats of the Empire of Magdala whose relations with the Elven State of Lutramancha are critical along the empire's northern and northwestern frontier. The human study of the elven languages of the new world is still in its infancy.

In phonology, elven languages are generally tonal and prefer a phonotactics of CV or CVC.
