Gnomata

The plural of gnoma, the gnomata are collectively all the advanced meditations which a wizard studies and employs to wield his craft. Sometimes, a gnoma is called a thought-form.

Gnomata are inherent components of Locks and Claves. They are divided into two categories, fundamental gnomata and compound gnomata.

There are differing theories that explain the relationship between gnomata and locks and claves, but most wizard scholars believe they are the same in their essence. For this reason, some wizarding schools touch lightly upon gnomata or not at all. But the most prestigious regimens instruct acolytes fully in the fundamental gnomata and the most famous spell-fashioners of the day are well-versed in the gnomata. Locks and claves are considered 'ready-to-use' versions of gnomata and were designed over the centuries in academic settings to instruct acolytes in wizardcraft as quickly as possible with a goal to practical spellcraft rather than theory or innovation.
