From the ancient High Shadevan Language, an nkumá'a is a pile of stones or small cairn set up to honor a local numinous divinity. Nkumá'a are found in the high valleys of Jamenth, Gantvia, and Thrace. The surviving High Shadevan Tribespeople relate that their distant ancestors raised the stone piles to recognize and worship divinities and to secure their favor. Historically, the inhabitants of the high valleys, whether they were of the High Shadevan people or of Gwenyan ancestry would not harm or remove the nkumá'a out of fear of retribution from the divinity.
