A specialist who identifies flying creatures and flying vessels usually live on site, an oeonist is often the member of the crew of a skycraft vessel. Navigators and helmsmen are often oeonists and it is very rare that a member of the crew is solely an oeonist. Excellent vision is considered essential and a broad experience. Persons can be trained at busy skyports to become oeonists, but most skilled oeonists have several years of work experience. The knowledge and practice is called oeonistry. Historically, an oeonist identified flying creatures and later skycraft in very ancient times when the threat of dragon attacks was a not uncommon peril.
