Papyri Teratici
The Papyri Teratici is a collection of seventeen papyri fragments which discuss numerous medical subjects. The papyri are named 'teratici' meaning pertaining to monstrosities as a portion of the papyri contain illustrations of monstrosities or 'terata' from the womb and other sources, including chaos worship. This, however, is only a portion of the collection. The remaining topics are medical including obstetrics, surgery, mage-born illnesses, and treatments for common ailments. The documents are invaluable for understanding ancient medicine. Their discovery was surrounded with a certain sensationalism and they were immediately suspected by the general public to contain subversive chaos magic incantations. In fact, they only discuss the impact of chaos as it relates to the phenomena of monstrosities and ancient medicine. Two of the papyri fragments treat the topic of magic-born illness.
The Papyri were discovered in Aglidice in 2497 and written in the ancient Ithatian Language. They are in varying states of preservation due to their treatment by the discoverers. The papyri are thought to have a Pallathantic provenance, perhaps in Corundy or the Ithatian Islands. They are kept today in the extensive papyrus collection of the Archcollege of Mirrhaimo.
