Republic of Gonsk
The Republic of Gonsk is a sovereign state with a self-representative government in southwestern Barathorn. Gonsk neighbors the Skymark Commonwealth to the east, the Kingdom of Glaye to the south, Dragonfirth and the Kingdom of Urgundia to the west, and Gnoost to the north.. Anciently eastern Gonsk was considered part of Dewyddair and was subject to the Skymark. Northern Gonsk is mountainous and the north end of the North Skrall Mountains forms the eastern boundary of the country. The islands of Imphia and Eckerrune are part of the republic.
Cities and Settlements
The capital city is Genskas. Other important cities include Hassfroond, Great Froond, Threckfroond, Lliathgonsk, and Glornkearth.
Government
The representative body of Gonsk is the High Thing which is broadly similar to the Skymark’s ancient Sprikonnath. The speaker of the High Thing is the High Thingmaster.
Freedoms
Gonsk is pre-eminent for its freedom of printing. The press is lightly regulated in Gonsk. Printing materials for chaos worship is illegal, but only enforced if the authorities have reasonable suspicion or blatant proof. Printers do not need to license their printing equipment with the government and books do not require a printing tax.
Council of Paladins
Established in the time of the Gensk Kingdom, the Council of Paladins is a semi-governmental body which serves the Republic. Their contribution to the creation of the Republic and the war against the Gneikladasic Empire ensured their preservation.
Commerce
Gonsk is well-known for its book trade and production of fine Gensk Linen. Gensk sea merchants access the sea via the Gulf of Gonsky and so fish is an important part of the Gensk diet. Northern Gonsk provides timbering. In the early twenty seventh century (2605), the pantypos was invented. Genskas soon became a leading publishing center and printers led popular reforms among the educated classes of society for the liberalization of printing laws. Gonsk is now one of the leading centers for book production in the world. In the very late twenty seventh century, Genskas became a center of titancraft manufacturing and today produces many parts essential for titancraftworks in Barathorn and in Amerzcelindo. Standardized titancraft parts, such as creatrixes, are manufactured for use by major titancraft corpora mercia of the middle and eastern Pallathantic Region.
Transportation
Dragonrail service came to Gonsk in the second half of the twenty seventh century (ca 2650 to 2699). The Southern Barathorn Dragonline provides service from Genskas to Enoultseyrand. In the twenty eighth century, dragonrail service from Genskas through Great Froond, Lliathgonsk, Ffawodeith, Gal-Kialla, Galmaddin, and thence to Drackmarrow was constructed.
