Sibbarine
An ancient race of the deep earth, the Sibbarine are thought descended from aquatic elves, possibly the Sva. Long having departed from the surface world, the Sibbarine elves have dwelt exclusively in the great depths of the earth for tens of thousands of years. Capricious and yet wise in nature, they are wont to propitiate the dark gods and fiends of Chaos. They fear most their god Shalb (aka Xhalb’) and his mother, the terrible Xhalb’ithût, an arch-demoness. Sibbarines are now in a state of perpetual decadence, the ages of their great deepearth empire long behind them.
Sibbarines appear as tall, somewhat gaunt, albino elves. They have developed into two types, the ruling caste and the low gillharrow, most likely through separate breeding. The relationship if any between Sibbarines and the Sva is conjectured but not fully known, perhaps lost in the depths of time. The gillharrow have amphibious gills on each side of the chest and the back. Their hair is dull black and usually shortly cropped. They are around seven and a half feet high and tower over the ruling caste which is usually around six and a half feet in height. The ruling caste Sibbarine have dull white hair which both male and female grow long and adorn with various baubles and ties, sometimes complexly braided.
Sibbarine ruling caste members are often apt sorcerers. A fewer number are chaos mages or priests of their ancestral gods.
The Sibbarines are believed to have once ruled an immense empire in the deepearth world of Kvarraga in the very distant past. Legend says they worshiped powerful demons that gave their rulers great powers and that they used their great magical powers to enslave whole tribes of troglodytes who served them in war and in labor. At present, the Sibbarines are thought to be decadent, fallen from power, and scattered in the deepearth.
The Sibbarines worship the demonic god known as Shalb whom they believe is the son of the entity known as Xhalb'ithût, a being which the Ithrabbi also hold in great reverence as the mother of their god, Prince Hersp. Thus a connection in loose, mythical ancestry exists between the Sibbarines and the Ithrabbi.
