A Pytharnian musical instrument with bow and strings, a vondolin stands upright like a harp. The vondolineer vibrates a given string by touching it with a magical plectrum or a witchgoad which has the similar effect on the string as a violin bow does on a violin. A witchgoad can be used to vibrate a single string or as many as four strings. Fully skilled vondolineers will use two witchgoads to vibrate two or more strings.
