The Throe Waste known as Van Waste lies in eastern Ugornia Province in Lucacia. The Van Waste is one the smaller wastes and stretches up to about thirty miles at its greatest extent. The terrain of the waste is a mixture of plains and hills. The Gra Thiuspio River runs through it. The waste came into existence in the year 2273 through a great devastation of the Anarch Wars. Its extent impinges upon the ruins of the city of Johar that was destroyed as a consequence of the great devastation. Johar is the largest ruin in the Van Waste. The closest cities of any size to the Van Waste are Maba Luva and Brognasso.
Little if any life lives in the Van Waste and it is known to harbor undead entities and the most desperate of outlaws. Birds generally avoid flying over the region and even the toughest drought resistant plants are rarely found in the waste. Few persons who enter the Van Waste return out of it.
As with all the Throe Wastes, it is illegal to enter or remove relics from the Van Waste, except for persons with authorization from the provincial government or from the Lucacian Over-Provincial government. The Noble Senate of Aurice has granted authority to certain institutions such as the Magitechnic Institute of Aurice to enter the waste for research purposes.
