Maba Luva
Maba Luva is a large town in the Aurician province of Lelegundy that rests on an outcropping of the Strí Bospinar Mountains, an east-west chain of prominent hills. Maba Luva has a population of about three thousand people. It commands the western end of the Valley of Saint Agnavaira. Maba Luva is an administrative town of the province famous for its Annual Garlic Festival. Despite its proximity to Ulcanosto Waste and Van Waste, the town remains prosperous, protected from winds that blow the sickly sands of the wastes by the Igluvaca Mountains that form the northern wall of the valley. Maba Luva is near the towns of Dasmoprio and Chaggy's Fork. Maba Luva is subject to Amignamo, the provincial capital of Lelegundy, in the Over-Province of Lucacia. The spoken language is a dialect of the Lucacian Language.
Maba Luva's economy relies principally upon agriculture and trade. The town is the seasonal residence of log-runners, lumberjacks who float logs on the Gra Thiuspio River through the Ulcanosto Waste to coastal city of Nettumbro. This is very dangerous as they are directly exposed to the hazards of the Ulcanosto Waste, especially the dust winds. Additionally, there is no safe place on the shore of the river while in the waste for the loggers to take refuge. They must make the roughly 70 mile journey from the town of Bikala past the ruins of Khaha carrying their own food and supplies. Loggers avoid living for any longer than necessary in Bikala which lies just outside the edge of Ulcanosto Waste, taking refuge in Maba Luva.
Dragonrail investors are planning to build tracks connecting Maba Luva with Tachonia to the east and Ehundza to the west.
According to local legend, the town of Maba Luva was founded during the Midretassene Empire, over two thousand years ago. The town is mentioned in the hagiography of Saint Agnavaira of Gasper, an important local Arathracian saint of Lucacia. The Arathracian Saint, Agnavaira of Gasper, is said to have performed two miracles in or very near Maba Luva. In medieval times, the town was enriched by an active silver mine across the valley in the Igluvaca Mountains. The mine is today abandoned and its ore deemed spent, but a flourishing community of silversmiths continues to work their craft in the city. During the middle ages, it was bounded by a much smaller wall and became more significant after the Anarch Wars when it filled the commercial and strategic roles that were lost with the destruction of the walled city of Johar now lying in ruins in the Van Waste.
