There are is no language on Asdar as widely spoken as English is on Earth. Most Asdaran humans are at least bilingual. An individual typically speaks his native (local or cultural) language and one ‘international’ language. Any family with any aspirations for their children above a common laborer will have their children taught a second language, often within the home by another family member.

International Languages

These languages are considered ‘international’ as there are many non-native speakers

Yophenthean

The classical language of Arathracian liturgy and the ancient Yophenthean Empire, Yophenthean is spoken by educated persons and diplomats throughout the Pallathantic. The Erechórebese language is related to it.

Medibgóëse

The language of the Medibgóëse Empire was spoken widely after the Isbajutha. It is today widely spoken as a language of wizards in Pytharnia and is a significant vehicle of literary and diplomatic terms. It is the most common second language among humans of the eastern Pallathantic and has more non-native than native speakers.

Ithradic

The dwarven language is widely spoken in the southern Jaggudorns even by Amandal dwarves and of course in the Ithradic Mountains and also by most Pytharnian gnomes. Many human sun priests in Ambrasia also speak Ithradic. Most educated dwarves speak proper Ithradic, along with their local dialect of either Ithradic or Amandal.

Dewyddairsh

Widely spoken in southern Barathorn, and northern Orrhymby, Dewyddairsh is the language of the Skymark, of Amerzcelindo, and of Umbardia.

Regional

Widely spoken in a given region, but not considered international, these languages were significant in Pallathantic history and still widely spoken today.

Thracian

The language of the former New Kalikan Empire, Thracian is now only spoken in Thrace. It is an important historic language and sometimes necessary to read records, including aristocratic house records, from the 26th century.

Lucacian

Although not considered an international language, Lucacian is the de facto language of the Aurician Empire and thus widely spoken in the eastern Pallathantic especially among high officials and the military.

There are many, many other human and non-human languages. In the eastern Pallathantic, Lucacian, Agogian and Pytharnian are significant. Thracian is historically significant, but not widely spoken outside of the High Shadevan Plateau. Lucacian is nearly international as it is spoken widely among the ruling class of the Aurician Empire. Ithatian is spoken among most of the islands of the eastern Pallathantic, including the Aurician Over-Province of Thykomia.
