Disputes over tariffs in the Gorcorumbese Empire for goods entering through the Memnosian Sea were the pretext for the Merchants War, 2682 to 2685. As matters escalated, Jerushabla and Narshad were liberated and declared independent in 2684. The war ended in 2685 with the Battle of Libshem (2685). The Gorcorumbese, fearing further loss of territory, quickly settled with the Treaty of Johaulia (2685), recognizing the independence of Jerushabla and Narshad.
The war is called the Merchants War as it was organized and funded by the Merchants of Narshad, Jerushabla, both at home and in exile in friendly nations throughout the Pallathantic and Memnosian Seas.
