An isle that lies about five miles south of Maturn and great cult center of the Sun Goddess, Eriu, Zamaclë is an independent city-state under the government of the Magisterium. The island state is dependent upon revenues of pilgrims and royalties from its salt mines for wealth as it does not produce sufficient food and goods to sustain its inhabitants. Zamaclë defended and held its independence through the Middles Ages of Chaos as a refuge of law and never had need to be liberated by the Isbajutha, although its rulers are friendly to the Incarnandists and have historically cooperated with them. Zamaclë relies on its honor as one of the few remaining great oracles of the Old Religion. The spoken language of the islet is the insular Ithatian Language.
The centaur guard was established after the Fall of Yophénthë when centaurs were invited from Eloaria into Ambrulia (Streionia). The centaur guards are devoted and loyal to the cult of the goddess Eriu and the magisterial government of Zamaclë.
Magisterial Palace
The oraculars are the various priestesses empowered with oracular power. They are are directly subordinate to the Prelate of the Assembly of Oraculars which is in turn subordinate to the High Priestess of the Great Goddess Eriu.
Oracle of Eriu
The oracle of Eriu is considered one of the oldest and respected of the Isxinthion and pre-Isxinthion relgions in the Pallathantic region. The Oracle is in a special annex to the Temple of the Goddess Eriu. Consultation of the oracle is not free. The obligatory donation is calculated from a base rate plus the perceived status of the supplicant, so that rulers pay a very high price and commoners pay a lower price, but still very costly. Additionally, rulers and magnates are expected to donate a costly work of art or to erect a small monument in the vicinity of the oracle. The magnificence of the donation contributes to the perceived prestige of the donor.
There is an ongoing debate among actuaries about the method that the priests use to calculate the obligatory donation, some contending that there is no one formula, and others insisting they have discovered the formula.
Revenues
Zamaclë derives its income from payments on its lease of the salt mine rights to the corpus merx, Telluride Mercantile, of Tauhad, from a sales tax on merchants who make income from the many pilgrims and visitors the city receives annually, and from fees and donations to the Oracle of Eriu.
