A titancraft technology that enables lift for titancraft vessels, the ziffler foil was developed in Aurice from Geddamin prototypes stolen during the Geddamin Wars of the 26th century (2500's). The first viable ziffler foil was produced among humans in 2619 at Metropolitan Skycrafters. Despite commercial secrecy, the principle of the ziffler foil spread to or was simultaneously re-discovered in Corundy and has spread throughout the titancraft corpora mercia of the Pallathantic.
The ziffler foil has enabled great advances in skycraft technology, including the widely used onogaster. The Ziffler Foil was essential for the creation of the Coelodermic Volitundum. Modern titancraft vessels of great size or of heavy cargo tonnage incorporate both ziffler foils and volitundums.
A Ziffler Foil is powered by titancraft engines. The magical energy causes the foil to rise away from the earth. The most advanced foils generate a lift effect beyond the extend of the foil proper. The polarity of an improved ziffler foil can be reversed causing it to be drawn to the earth. A ziffler ambifoil can be incorporated into the empennage of the tail for directional modification.
A Ziffler Foil Array typically consists of two layers on each side. The lower foil is small than the higher foil. It was discovered that the combination of upper and small lower foils produces an enhanced effect greater than could be achieved with a single foil with a surface area equal to both foils combined.
The argikeraunic ziffler foil was developed over the period of 2653 to 2658 in Aurice.
This illustration shows ziffler foils used in conjunction with coelodermic volitunda.
