The panstream describes the ambient magical energy that penetrates the world of Asdar and its pertinent phenomenology. The panstream is essential for life and for the magical powers of traditional wizards and spellcasters. Modern titancraft also makes use of the panstream through a process and device called panagogia. One proficient in the observation of the panstream is a panseer and panseeing is fundamental to arcane spellcasting.

Most magic use and virtually all titancraft engines only access the shallowest level which is closest to the human experience. Consequently, this shallow layer can be drained relative to the deeper layers. It is believed that it can never be fully drained as the deeper levels will continually replenish it. A panseer can see the layers of the panstream which are closest to the perceptible range of conventional experience. The deeper the layers, the more difficult it is for the panseer to note them. For this reason, some creatures and environmental phenomena can appear to have a mediocre panwarp but in effect own a stronger panwarp which lies deeper in the panstream and is less visible to a panseer.

The panstream is polycosmic and exists both locally and in other realms. Theoretical panurgists believe the panstream is omnicosmic, that is, present in every realm in the cosmos.

The energy of the panstream for a given area, creature, or phenomenon is measured in octaves.
