Here is a list of some of the well-known and documented papyri along with papyri that are referenced in reputable ancient works, but remain undiscovered. The supreme joy of any papyrologist lies in discovering a here-to-fore unknown papyrus of a non-extant text. In this list 'papyrus' is used for any scroll. The scroll ('volumen') format was the dominant form until the invention of the codex around 670 AI in Corundy or Mirrhaimo. By around 780, new scrolls were rarely made.
