The flag of the Principality of Gonfaloy

The Principality of Gonfaloy is the vestige of a former age when numerous dukedoms, principalities, and petty kingdoms were found across southern Pytharnia. Before the Sewdhaine War, the territory of the Principality was part of what is now called Medibgóëse Gonfaloy. Gonfaloy was divided at part of the treaty negotiated in the Peace of Amyrn (2671) and the lesser portion created into the Principality of Gonfaloy.

The government of the Principality is a constitutional monarchy. The Prince is the hereditary ruler and head of state who rules with the consent and limitation of the meritocratic senate of merchants and aristocrats.

The capital of Gonfaloy is Saint Jerobs where the Prince of Gonfaloy rules from the Truascaive Palace. The Principality of Gonfaloy shares cultural ties with Medibgóëse Gonfaloy, although it is politically independent. The principality has successfully resisted the encroachments of its much more powerful neighbor, the Archduchy of Asbardy and the power of Medibgóëse Gonfaloy by playing off the mutual covetousness of these two bordering powers against each other and by treaties with Ambrasia and the Ithrads.

The Principality maintains a strong defensive military of dragonmount knights and a small fleet of titancraft vessels for coastal protection. It is widely believed that Gonfaloy's draconic knights are crucial to its independence from Asbardy. The Principality offers merchants extremely low import taxes on only a few goods and thus has become highly desirable, especially for large, foreign corpora mercia and major merchants.

Cities

Ingovewyn is the largest city in the Principality, followed by the capital city of St. Jerobs. The third largest city and the state's major port is Airefithuny. Ingovewyn controls the pass through the Silver Hills on the western reaches of the Principality.

Airefithuny is the port city of the Principality and the base of its coast guard. Airefithuny competes with Rhiamnus, the governing city of Breomarch and Tanthgefri in Medibgóëse Gonfaloy. Gandrey is the second, much smaller port city in the west on the northernmost portion of the Gonfalese Sound that reaches the Principality. Gandrey is only thirteen miles from the suburbs of Rhiamnus, across the border. The Principality has considered developing Gandrey in direct competition with Rhiamnus, but prefers Airefithuny to avoid upsetting Asbardy.

Geography

The Principality is coastal in the temperate south of Pytharnia. The Stresire River defines most of the state's eastern border shared with Medibgóëse Gonfaloy, draining into the Gonfalese Sound the coast of which defines the southwest border. The northwest boundary passes through the Silver Hills.

Climate

Winters are cool and rainy with an unlikely chance for a light snow. Fog is infrequent in autumn and very common in the winter. Spring brings greater rains and summer is occasionally rain-free, but humid.

Language

Gonfalese is spoken throughout the Principality which language it shares with Flisbardy, Medibgóëse Gonfaloy,Ambrasia, Flamander, Ygdafyl, and Amosgire. The most common foreign languages are from neighboring countries: Asbardian, Dúrandworese, and Medibgóëse.

The Principality of Gonfaloy rests betweeen Asbardy and Medibgóëse Gonfaloy.
