In 2561, Viceroyal Duke Baimund Kaligär of the Thracian Empire annexed the then Vice-royal Duchy of Erserce, making it a subject dominion to the Duchy of Aurice. The appointed vice-royal duke of Erserce has fallen prey to assassination earlier that same year. Subsequent palace intrigue in Thrace prevented a new vice-royal duke from being appointed and installed in a timely manner and Kaligär, believing the monarchy to be too distracted and weakened by other conflicts, seized the northern dominion and established a puppet governor and military control.
