The isle of Zamaclë is home the city-state of the same name.

An isle that lies about five miles south of Maturn and great cult center of the Sun Goddess, Zama (See also (Eriu), Zamaclë is an independent city-state under the government of the Magisterium. The island state is dependent upon revenues generated by sales taxes on pilgrims and visitors and by royalties from its salt mines for wealth as it does not produce sufficient food and goods to sustain its inhabitants. Zamaclë is most famous liberation by the Isbajutha, although its rulers are friendly to the Incarnandists and have historically cooperated with them. Zamaclë relies on its honor as one of the few remaining great oracles of the Old Religion. Its relations with the Arathracian Church are frosty at times and respectful at others. The spoken language of the islet is the insular Ithatian Language. The name Zamaclë is derived in part from the name Zama, the Ithatian name for the goddess 'Eriu' in a relationship of Isxinthion God names known as Interpretatio Isxinthiona.

The island is largely rocky and its highest peak, Mount Arakontis (Zamaclë), reaches 2362 feet above sea level. There are two smaller islets, Zaldo Island and Gadrock Island, just to the north of Zamaclë that help enclose the area called the Bay of the Merchants. These islets are quite rocky and have few inhabitants. There are four major urban areas on the isle and numerous villas and farms. Each of these areas is under the direct governance of a prefect appointed by the Magisterium.

Centaur Guard of Zama

The centaur guard was established after the Fall of Yophénthë when centaurs were invited from Eloaria into Ambrulia (Streionia) by the Arathracian Emperor of Pytharnia. The Emperor sent a delegation of centaurs to the high priestess of Zama to protect and guard the oracle. Today the centaur guards are devoted and loyal to the cult of the goddess Zama and the magisterial government of Zamaclë.

Magisterial Palace

The members of the Magisterium regularly meet in the Magisterial Palace of Zamaclë to conduct government business of a more secular nature and to receive official diplomats from other states.

Oracle of Zama

The oracle of Zama is considered one of the oldest and respected of the Isxinthion and pre-Isxinthion religions in the Pallathantic region. The Oracle is in a special annex to the Temple of the Great Goddess Zama. The affairs of the Oracle are administered by priestesses who are specifically chosen to serve in the Oracular College of Zama.

Consultation of the oracle is not free. The obligatory donation is calculated from a base rate plus the perceived status of the supplicant, so that rulers pay a very high price and commoners pay a lower price, but still very costly. Additionally, rulers and magnates are expected to donate a costly work of art or to erect a small monument in the vicinity of the oracle. The magnificence of the donation contributes to the perceived prestige of the donor.

There is an ongoing debate among actuaries about the method that the priests use to calculate the obligatory donation, some contending that there is no one formula, and others insisting they have discovered the formula.

Revenues

Zamaclë derives its income from payments on its lease of the salt mine rights to the corpus merx, Telluride Mercantile (Tauhad), from a sales tax on merchants who make income from the many pilgrims and visitors the city receives annually, and from fees and donations to the Oracle of Zama.

Cities and Settlements

The island of Zamaclë has four major urban areas, the city proper of Zamaclë, the city, Akazamaclë, the city Keridomios, and the city Nabos. The city of Zamaclë in turn may be divided into the High Fundament and Lower Zamaclë which includes Kulbassa Isle.

Government of Zamaclë

The highest body of government of the city-state of Zamaclë is the Magisterium whose presiding member is the High Priestess of Zama. The Magisterium is divided into two groups, emeritus and senior priestesses. Emeritus priestesses are often but not always retired. In some cases, a senior priestess may be permitted to leave the island for an extended period time to serve elsewhere. She may become an emeritus priestess since she can no longer serve directly as a member of the Magisterium. The Magisterium appoints the four city prefects who govern the four cities respectively, Zamaclë, Akazamaclë, Keridomios, and Nabos. The High Priestess of Zama presides over the governmental and sacerdotal functions of the Magisterium and also performs the most holy rites and privileges of the goddess. She also serves as the figurehead and head of state. The Magisterium also approves the priestesses for the Oracular College who administer the Oracle of Zama. The specific woman who is the oracular priestess (compare sybil) of the goddess Zama is typically chosen by revelation. Contrary to some beliefs, the High Priestess is never the Oracle of Zama.

Magisterium

All members of the Magisterium are female priestesses of the Goddess Zama. They are chosen and approved by the Magisterium for their knowledge, service, and devotion to the goddess and are typically members of leading families of the island of Zamaclë or Maturn. They regularly meet in the Magisterial Palace to conduct business or in the Temple of the Great Goddess Zama.
