Elmundel is an independent city-state, one of the largest in Barathorn with a population of about 66,000 inhabitants, and the first city in the portage known as the Ruby Highway to Obipine in northwestern Barathorn. Elmundel lies in the north end of the Bay of Elmundel. Elmundel was part of the Dewyddairsh province of the Skymark. The city became autonomous in 2523 AI and independent in the twenty seventh century on the heels of the Gneikladasic War. Elmundel is a great entrepôt of merchants. The city famously controls the Elmundel Canal which links the Pytharnian Sea with the southern end of Lake Blackwaves. The territory of the city includes all the land between the sea and the lake. It neighbors the Skymark Commonwealth to the west and the Kingdom of Firche to the east.
The core city of Elmundel is known as High Elmundel and has a population of nearly seventy thousand persons. Other settlements within the Free City are Kaddafast and Serfachawr.
The chief executive and head of state of Elmundel is Owyffraig Tolchawr, the Grand Governor.
