Games of High Summer of Aurice
The Games of High Summer of Aurice are held on New Year's Day which in the Common Year is Summer Solstice. They are great public festivities with spectators from across the Pallathantic gathering in great crowds in the capital city of Aurice. Spectators cram the strades of the city and pack specially chartered aerobarges for the purpose of the watching the games. The games consist of races and team sports, including gibgibsew races, skycraft races, titanship races, and the marvelously popular game of skar, particularly the Imperial Skar Pennant. Additionally, there are several regattas, including a skycraft regatta, a seaship regatta, and a military sky regatta of the Aurician Skyforce.
The skycraft regattas begin in the late morning and pause for the Imperial Skar Pennant at noon, then resume in the afternoon.
Lodging during this time becomes pressed to its fullest limits in the city of Aurice. In addition to taverns and hostelries, landlords will often throw out their tenants and charge tourists and visitors two to four times the standard lodging rate during this time. Aerobarges are also used for makeshift communal lodging.
